Set Up or Modify Password Protection on Directories

The admin section of some programs such as osCommerce are password protected on the directory level. To modify this password, follow these guidelines:

  1. Login to Cpanel.
  2. In the Security section of Cpanel, click on PASSWORD PROTECT DIRECTORIES.
  3. Click on the name of the folder you wish to protect. If you do not see the folder you are interested in it is most likely nested inside another folder. If so, click on the folder icon next to the folder name to look inside that folder. In the case of osCommerce, the admin folder is often inside the catalog folder.
  4. After you have clicked on the name of the folder you wish to protect you will see a Password Protect Directories page.
    1. To change a user's password, add that user in the Create User section with the new password.
    2. To delete a user, select the user in the Authorized Users box and click DELETE.
    3. To turn off password protection for this folder, uncheck "Password protect this directory" in the Security Settings box.
    4. To turn on password protection for this folder, check the "Password protect this directory" in the Security Settings box.
